Tuning Up! 2012

Every year I have a camp for my students during one week of the summer.

Without fail someone asks if they are sleeping at my house--which is a definite no, just for the record. What they do do is come to my house every day for a couple hours. We work on new music, old music, develop pulse and rhythm, and ear training--while having fun (hopefully). At several points I felt severely outnumbered and like I was going to lose my mind but we all survived. Everyone seemed to have a good time with the week culminating in a Final Concert which went really well.

I was lucky this year to have Henry, Lucy, and Peter all in attendance. Peter has only had a few lessons so this was brand new for him. Lucy was ahead of most of my kids so she did lots of review, learned duet parts to songs she already knows and was a leader (when she wasn't being super silly with her new friends). And Henry. Well. Henry would never admit he enjoyed camp because sometimes he's a disinterested teenager inside an 8-year-old's body. But I think even he liked it by it the end. After his first day he reported to Mary that it was "hell." Trying to understand his strong response Mary asked what he meant and he replied "Well, isn't that the worst possible place you could ever be?" I think having two boys around his age join us the second day helped him come round--thank heavens.

I've posted a lot of pictures on my studio website at the links below but thought I'd add a few more shots of my littles just because I can (and I didn't want my students to feel I was biased...).

Peter's bow hold.
A very serious game of Jenga.

Lucy cheesing it up.
Lucy doing I don't know what.
Finally a normal Lucy.
What Henry (and Lucy) did while they waited for the other's group to be over.

The trouble makers.
Yeah. Henry didn't have any fun.
So cute. Bow tie and all.
Henry played Morning by Greig. It was lovely.
