Happy Birthday to Claire!

I cannot believe my baby is 1!!!

We celebrated the day with family dinner, presents, and a chocolate cake from Costco. All my students sang and attempted to play Happy Birthday (which was not pretty) and much of the day was spent packing up our apartment but I think it was still a success.

Milestones include:
- She is 28.5 inches long and 18 lbs 3.4 ounces (aka muy petite). She has moved up to the 25th percentile though which is good--in the beginning we were in the 7th.
- She can hold her own in any conversation--interrupting and arguing her points very effectively.
- She is days away from total walking independence. Eric and I think she could do it now if she really wanted to and if the temptation is good enough she will take the leap, but most of the time she wants a steadying hand.
- She can very clearly tell you what she wants with her dainty little pointer finger leading the way.
- She sings along when she hears Twinkle, I Love to See the Temple, and several other familiar melodies.
- She LOVES the piano and wants to play it every chance she gets. The violin doesn't have quite the same pull but I'm working on it.
- She has zero interest in watching tv. The remote on the other hand...
- She has started dancing which means she'll get balanced on her two feet and then start shaking her shoulders which moves her tummy which moves her bum which often makes her lose her balance. It is darling.
- When you pick her up in the morning she will either be facing the wall talking to herself, gnawing on a book, or standing up talking at the door--waiting for you to finally open it up. When you do open it, throws her head back, her left hand up in the air and arches her back. It is also darling. It is accompanied by squeals and jabbering. Sometimes is it followed by throwing her head forward, smacking it into the side of the crib which is not so darling and is not a great way to wake up, but the rest of the routine is something I want to remember forever.
- The Dr. has instructed us no more bottles so she is eating 100% what we are eating. If we would let her she would only eat fruit and nothing else.
- She has become a blankey girl. Luckily it is not one blankey in particular--it just needs to be one of the blankets we swaddled her in when she was tiny. When she grabs it the first thing she does is pull it up to her nose and take a deep breath. I don't know what it smells like but it must equal home to her. If you are doing laundry or picking up the house and she sees another blankey, look out. She will not be happy until she has it, along with the other one or two she is holding.
- My favorite part of the day is when Eric walks in the door and she, while holding the two hands of a sitter, squeals, ducks her head and beelines for him. Without fail. Every day.
- She has recently discovered that she can reach the books on the shelf and that she can pull them off. Sometimes this is not awesome, but most of the time she'll find one she really likes and she'll drag it over to you, place herself in your lap, and grunt that it is time for you to read to her.

As you can tell, there is very little I don't love about this little lady. How lucky am I to be her mom?!She is continually teaching me how to be a better person and how to love deeper than I thought was possible.

Here we had to take a birthday break for a tub. That's right. The cake was that yummy.

I think this paper was almost as fun as the present.
