Especially when there is so much football happening before 1-1-2012 (the U's Bowl Game/BYU's Bowl Game).
Eric had Friday and Monday off so really, the weekend was scheduled around when we needed to be to my parents' house and what we were going to eat while we were there. Sounds perfect, no?
Friday, for the BYU/Tulsa, game we arrived just in time for kick-off, not wanting to offend the true Cougar fans in the crowd. I don't know they noticed our subtle placement of the Ute logo on our persons. And they won, thanks to the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. We'll leave discussing the game to them, but I must say I have to laugh whenever an announcer says something like "That was some block from the big fella" (referring to Reynolds who, in my humble opinion, did in fact have a fantastic block...)
Saturday, there was no hiding our Utah Support. It was like we were tailgating between our newly acquired U of U blanket, my warm up pants, and Eric's knee socks and jersey, and the Tamales with the accompanying sides we hauled from our house to my mom's. It was quite the production. I wish we could say the game was prettier and it was somewhat of a miracle that the Utes came out on top. But they did. Too bad for Georgia Tech. Go Utes.
Unlike our first New Year's Eve which I vaguely remember because of the amount of Nyquil I had taken, we rang in 2012 with Strawberry Ice Cream, popcorn, Martinelli's and a little Bourne Supremacy. It was a great night. Pretty chill.
Sunday began a new era for Eric and I, 2pm church. What is that? I think in all my years as a single I never had church before 11 or after 1 and now in our first 4 months of marriage we have met at 9am and, starting 1/1/12, 2pm. This is definitely going to take some adjusting to. It felt like we slept in forever, only to realize we had three more hours before we even had to think about getting ready. I might have to pick up a hobby or two (maybe this is when I can write on our blog...). It was nice to be back in the ward. It felt like it had been a while since we had been there and if feels like there were a lot of foreign faces in the congregation. Eric was called to be a primary teacher and I think I am slightly jealous. He starts next week so I'll keep you posted.
The real New Year's celebrations did not start until Monday. I'm talking the Granddaddy of them all--the Rose Parade. Ever since we lived in Pasadena California, the Rose Parade has been an integral part of my New Year's Day. I know that Eric does not understand (or support) the annual viewing of this parade (or any parade for that matter) but he was a good sport and sat through it with me and Mary and Emily. Every year my mother says "Next year we will be there" like Yenta says "Next year in Jerusalem." Hopefully it will happen, if not New Year's 2013, then definitely 2014.
Mark your calendars now.
