ADD Inc.

After a very long vacation I'm finally back to work. This Tuesday was my first day at ADD Inc. They have a very strong portfolio, a young and experienced work force, excellent projects, a strong design philosophy and an awesome office. The Boston office is comprised of roughly 100 people and a Miami office with roughly 20 people.

After working at Goody Clancy I was looking forward to being much more involved in one or two projects rather than filling more of a support role for a number of projects in different phases. With the economy as it has been the last few years ADD placed itself in an excellent position for the turn in the construction industry. I was immediately placed on a project that just received the green light. The week before I started we received the approval from the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the community to move forward with Design Development. It is a fun project and in a really cool location.

On the southern side of Boston is the Seaport District, or Fort Point Channel, it is mostly parking lots and a number of new and renovated buildings. We have five projects in the District and our office is right in the middle of it all. From our office you will be able to see two projects currently under construction out in the distance in Western Boston, and five future construction sites.

In my interviews I expressed my desire to be a member of a team again and to be a part of a project from start to finished. That, apparently wasn't a problem. This week I worked on a number of Revit sketches for the client. It was a blast being back in Revit full time. The project architect is a lot of fun too, I'm looking forward to being on his team. The project is a twenty story mix-used residential, four levels of parking with 3000 square feet of retail at the ground level.

It's only been four days and the honeymoon stage isn't over yet but it's been good to get back into the grove, even though I have to get up earlier and fight to rush across town, but the work is good and Libby packs a pretty stellar lunch, no doubt the school lunches will be coveted by all. Thanks for the support, Cheers.
