I've heard it said that the first real test in a marriage is when you have to make your first big purchase. We are there. Our fingers are crossed that we make it.
Our trusty washing machine decided it no longer wanted to complete the spin cycle leaving us with a pile of soggy darks quickly on their way to becoming smelly soggy darks. After a visit from handy-man Paul who quickly passed the verdict of "not worth fixing...give me $65 dollars" we headed out to shop around.
Everyone seems to have an opinion about which washer is the best so lucky for us we had the one deal-breaker of size to narrow down the field of possibilities. Our new washer could be not more than 26". I don't know how many of you know that we had to disassemble our washing machine to fit it into our spacious pantry/laundry area.

Not wanting to repeat this experience with a new machine we headed out with our tape measure in tow to trusty Lawndale Appliances in Waltham. After a whole 15 minutes of talking about load sizes, spin cycles, and who knows what else, the deal was done. They had a Speed Queen in stock and it would be delivered the next day. Presto. Change-o. Relatively painless. Probably the biggest pain of all was getting the old washer out of the way...
